Given today's North American beef crisis, I think we need to launch a Nation-wide IRM rally.
The best management tool available to help ranchers develop Business Oriented Damage Control Strategies is an IRM-SPA Cost & Return Analysis. I can think of nothing more appropriate gives today's beef crisis.
The single most important management action that a rancher can make today is to focus all of his management energies on reducing his costs of producing his 2004, 2005 and 2006 calves. IRM-SPA is the tool to be used.
We spent the last decade developing, testing, and gaining experience on how to conduct IRM Cost & Return Analyses for ranchers. Now the industry could capitalize on this expertise.
While I will not be able to make it to the NCBA Jan Conference this year, I hope that the IRM Sub-Committee will consider a Nation-Wide IRM Rally as top priority and try to motive the ranchers and extension specialists at the NCBA IRM Committee Meeting to launch such an IRM Rally.
